eRecording has started in Erie County!

What is eRecording?

Electronic Document Recording is a method of delivering and returning documents electronically from a submitter’s office to the recorder. eRecording can be an option for Title Companies, Law Firms, Banks, and other business that record documents on a regular basis today. The actual recording of the document is still done by the Recorder in their software system. Recorded documents are returned electronically.

Benefits of eRecording:

  • Helps to reduce the time from submission to return of documents, from 3-5 days to within minutes or hours of the initial submission
  • Save time, money and resources normally spent on document packaging, delivery & return
  • Reduce rejections and document & payment errors.
  • No cutting and processing checks. Payment of recording & eRecording fee is handled electronically.
  • Enhance document tracking & security
  • Helps with industry best practice compliance.

We currently have three eRecording vendors that offer these services that can be used in submitting the documents electronically.

First half real estate taxes are due February 14, 2020 and First half manufactured home taxes are due March 13, 2020.

Weights and Measures presentation at Meadowlawn School

On Friday, October 25, Meadowlawn School in Perkins Township, had a school-wide launch to promote the concept of Systems to their students. They invited presenters to speak on these topics: businesses, community workers, school employees, government employees, or any part of a system of workers. Jeff Fantozzi our Weights and Measures inspector was invited to present. Jeff brought his Gasoline proover, weights, scales, county seals, and handouts that helped the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students learn about his job and our Erie County Auditor’s office. Thank you Jeff for representing us and sharing the knowledge to the students.

Northwest Ohio Weights and Measures Inspector Meeting held 9/12/19

Rick Jeffrey, the Erie County Auditor and Jeff Fantozzi, Weights and Measures Inspector welcomed Inspectors and Auditor’s from surrounding counties of Sandusky, Ottawa, Seneca, Crawford, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Marian, Van Wert, Wood and Wyandot to our building on September 12th, 2019. This forum provided education and networking on the current issues and new processes in their professional field.

The Auditor’s Office per Ohio Revised Code, is the Sealer of Weights and Measures for the entire County, maintaining “Equity in the Marketplace,” thus protecting both buyer and seller from possible loss which may occur from faulty measuring devices, such as scales, scanners, retail motor fuel dispensers and meters. The Auditor is charged with the legal responsibility of ensuring that all State and National Laws relating to Weights and Measures are strictly enforced.

County Inspectors/Sealers are certified by the Ohio Department of Agriculture and must maintain the required Minimum Training Requirements established by the State. Inspectors must pass all National Institute of Standards and Technology test to attain certification, and 18 credit hours of training are mandatory for inspectors who have completed their training for maintaining certification each year.

Erie County tested 3143 devices which included 1068 gas pumps. They package checked 2033 items, and verified price in 218 establishments for 16,415 items in 2018.

Rick Jeffrey, Erie County Auditor and the financial staff members of all Erie County’s Departments were awarded the Auditor of State Award with Distinction for Fiscal Year 2018. Lori Brodie, Northwest Regional Liaison for Keith Faber, Ohio Auditor of State presented the award. As the award reads: “This award is presented for excellence in financial reporting related to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and compliance with applicable laws for the fiscal year ended 2018. Your exemplary reporting serves as the standard for clean, accountable government, representing the highest level of service to Ohioans.”

County Office Closures

The Erie County Auditor and the other county offices located at 247 Columbus Avenue will all be closed on Labor day-Monday, September 2, 2019.

The Erie County Auditor’s Staff will be at the Erie County Fair on Tuesday, August 6th thru Friday, August 9th from 11 am until 2 pm in the Heritage Barn. Please stop by and see us.
