2018 Sexennial Revaluation Value Change Notification Letters

Ohio Law requires each County Auditor to reappraise all parcels of real estate, within the county, every six years. My office has completed this according to State mandate. It is not our intention to raise or lower taxes but rather to establish what your property would sell for on the open market.

The Ohio Department of Taxation oversees the work performed by my office and must approve tentative values based on property sales in Erie County occurring over the past three years.

The estimated value may not contain new construction completed in 2017 or 2018, the final results of a property split, a new application for the C.A.U.V program, tax abatement or C.R.A. application.

If, in your opinion your new proposed value is a reasonable estimate of the current market value, you do not need to take any action. If, on the other hand, your value seems too high or too low, you are welcome to meet individually with my staff and I and representatives from the appraisal firm, John G. Cleminshaw, Inc.

We realize that property valuation is a sensitive issue, and therefore respect any input that you wish to provide, after all... "It's your home, your value".

If your property value changed you will receive a letter, if there was no value change you will not receive a letter. Please bring this mailer with you to the meeting.

Thank you Jeff for your willingness to serve for the benefit of the United States standards development process. June 8, 2018

Erie County Auditor Rick Jeffrey and Weights and Measures Inspector Jeff Fantozzi collaborated with multiple local counties by inspecting gas pumps in an effort to combat financial data theft. “Our office conducted a ‘skimmer sweep’ of gas pumps in Erie County,” said Auditor Jeffrey. “This was a coordinated effort by County Auditors across northwest Ohio. We have inspected 92 gas pump dispensers, interior and exterior, in service across the county, and have found no credit card skimmers. Even though skimmers weren’t found, consumers should still be wary of the possible presence of credit card skimmers on gas pumps. Vigilance by customers and gas station personnel will be the frontline defense against these criminals. I encourage daily inspections by gas station owners to supplement the inspections by our staff.”

“Skimmers” are installed by criminals to steal credit card data. The Weights & Measures Division of the Auditor’s Office inspects 1094 meters at gas stations and marinas across Erie County. Anyone suspecting the presence of a skimmer, or witnessing the tampering of a gas pump or credit card reader, should contact local law enforcement immediately. Paying for gas with cash is always the safest option at the pump. Using a credit card is safer than using a debit card, as customers using a debit card risk their PIN numbers being stolen. Motorists should use pumps nearest the attendant that are not open 24 hours, as criminals often target pumps further from view.

The Weights and Measure’s division of the Erie County Auditor’s Office can be reached at 419-627-7746.
